Adventures with little people

I had no one grade all day, I was what they call a floater. I knew this going in and was slightly uneasy about it, but I thought what the hay, it's two more days to my count (I'm doing the same thing tomorrow). While I didn't like some things about it...not having anywhere to put my shit all day long, I didn't mind others....like handing the kids back to their teachers after my time covering their classes were done (they were at meetings). They also tended to behave better. That is always makes me feel better.

  1. First up was first grade. These kids are cute and there are no two ways around it. One little boy even said, "I appreciate you being here and being the teacher for us, because you're really nice." Some of them knew the story behind Groundhog's Day. We went over a Scholastic sheet about real groundhogs live and then read a story. When I asked them questions to compare the two, one of the kids said "oh, that's fiction." HA! Because duh Aim, real groundhogs don't have human beds in their burrows. ; ) What a silly question to ask a six year old.
  2. Then I had Kindegarten. Blah. This task is not for me. I had to help kids with an art project and then put in a movie. Then I had to get them ready for the bus because their teacher wasn't back from the mtg yet. Aye! End of the day is hectic in any room, in Kindegarten, it is about 15 times more chaotic.
  3. Had a special ed room after lunch. It was nice and easy...only one student was there. We spent a lot of time reading out loud.
  4. The most I had to do was with the fourth graders at the end of the day. They were good, considering they had a sub for last 1.5 hours.

Let the adventures continue tomorrow. It is unlikely that any comment will top "I sure do appreciate you being here today and teaching us," but I will keep the door open for possibility. Maybe it's just so awesome because it's such a big word coming from such a little person. Or maybe just because it was really nice to hear and made me smile. And I knew I just HAD to post it on my blog when I came home, to help spread some happiness.
